Pediatric Sedation Dentistry in New York, NY

Safe, gentle sedation for anxious kids and longer visits, serving Yorkville, the Upper East Side, and Manhattan.

Comfort You Can Trust

Some kids sail through a filling. Others panic at the door, or need more work done than they can sit through awake. Sedation helps those children get the care they need without fear becoming part of the memory. Dr. Rachel trained in sedation and general anesthesia during her hospital pediatric residency, treating kids who needed real medical care, not just a quick cleaning.
We treat sedation as a safety decision first and a comfort decision second. That means the right level for your child, the right monitoring, and an honest conversation with you before anything is scheduled.

Our Sedation Options

Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, is the mildest option and the one we use most. Your child breathes it through a small mask and feels calm and a little floaty within minutes. They stay awake and aware the whole time. Best of all, it wears off almost as fast as it kicks in, so your child can usually head back to school or their normal day afterward.

How We Keep Sedation Safe

Safety in pediatric moderate or deep sedation comes down to one principle: the person doing the dentistry should not be the same person watching the sedation. National guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry call for a separate, dedicated provider to monitor a moderately/deeply sedated child. That's exactly how we work. For deeper sedation, a licensed anesthesiologist is there whose sole focus is your child, tracking breathing, heart rate, and oxygen the entire time.
Dr. Rachel's hospital background means sedation isn't new or occasional for her. She trained in it on medically complex kids, in the setting with the highest safety standards. We bring that same caution here.

Is Sedation Right for Your Child?

Sedation isn't for every visit, and we never use more than a child needs. It tends to help most with a few situations: young children who can't yet cooperate for treatment, kids with strong dental fear or a bad past experience, children with special health care needs, and cases with a lot of work to do at once. If a child can comfortably handle care awake, that's always our first choice. When they can't, sedation is a safe way forward. We'll give you a recommendation based on your child's needs, not a sales pitch.

Cost & Insurance

Sedation costs vary with the type used and the length of the visit, and we know that matters when you're planning. We're in-network with Guardian, Delta Dental, and DenteMax. Insurance sometimes covers sedation when it's medically necessary, though coverage varies by plan, so we check yours and tell you what to expect. Before we schedule, you'll get the full cost in writing - of both the dental portion and the anesthesia portion, with no guesswork.

Common Questions

Yes, when it's done right. The key is a separate, trained provider monitoring your child, which is what national pediatric guidelines call for and what we do. For moderate to deep sedation, a licensed anesthesiologist watches your child the entire time. Dr. Rachel trained in sedation on medically complex children during her hospital residency.
